EVENT DETAILS

Who:
Sponsored by the Tahoe-Truckee Clean Water team, local agencies, and YOU, the volunteers that make it happen!

What:
The 24th Annual Snapshot Day is the one-day volunteer-based annual event that takes a picture of one moment in time of our watershed: the greater Truckee River.  Volunteer monitoring teams will go out to various monitoring sites to perform a stream walk (visual assessment), collect field data, grab samples and take photos.  Streams will be field tested for dissolved oxygen, conductivity, pH, and temperature.  Water samples will be taken back to central meeting locations and measured for turbidity, nutrients, and fecal coliform bacteria.  All necessary equipment will be provided.
The purpose of this effort is:

  1. To promote environmental education and stewardship
  2. To collect valuable water quality information about Lake Tahoe and its watershed

Snapshot Day is a terrific opportunity for you to gain hands-on experience, to job shadow, and to interact with water resource professionals.  We assign any student volunteers to a sampling site near to their schools.  Snapshot Day is a really valuable event for the Tahoe Basin and Truckee watersheds and your participation makes it that much better.

Why:
It is our goal for this event to stimulate citizen interest, stewardship, and knowledge of local water quality issues.  This day also provides baseline data that may be used for restoration projects, monitoring, and the collaborative effort to protect our watershed from further degradation.

When and Where:
May 11, 2024, in South Lake Tahoe, North Lake Tahoe, and Middle Truckee River.
